I made a beat using my ASR and Ableton
When I listen to it through my ASR (computer -> interface -> asr -> headphones), it sounds a lot better. I don't know what it is, I think it's just because I like the sound of the ASR, it sounds a lot warmer than when I listen to it straight from the headphone jack

I tried sampling the drums through the asr but when I played the sample back it didn't sound as good as when I was just monitoring the drums through the ASR.

Question: Would it work to just run the sound through the asr and back into ableton, without recording anything into the ASR? it'd go Ableton -> interface -> ASR inputs (monitor on) straight to ASR outputs -> interface -> ableton (?)

The only reason I'm asking and not just trying it is because I'd need 4 quarter inch audio cables to do this and I only have two, so I'd need to go to the store and pick up 2 more.
P.S. , this question isn't asr specific, i didn't want to put it in the ASR thread because it would take a while for it to be answered. but all you need to know is that the ASR can monitor the sound, and so anything that goes into the inputs comes straight out the outputs.

THANKS in advance

part of the sound of the asr is in the conversion process - just monitoring it like this will not have any of that conversion going on.

you can try it right now - just do left only or right only - test it out in mono.

basically no it's not the same thing, but you can test it right now and you should so that you can judge for yourself if it's a big enough difference.
