Hi,

I have been looking for the name of that effect for a while now...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLD4M-Dgqoo&feature=player_detailpage&list=UUbftoIxokiJfR0R_VMJf1sg#t=23s

How is it called and how to apply it to a sample on a 2500 ?

I want to take a short sample and make it longer with this effect.

I read my manual all the time but it is difficult when you don't know the technical name of what you seek to do...

Plus, english is not my first langage and my manual is in english. I do my best and:

I have been looking for this for a while now

Any tips please, at least the name of the effect so i can make a research on it.

Thanks a lot.

that is not an effect in the MPC itself... it is a delay on the rhodes sample itself... I can tell because he has the sample on 16 levels and when he pushes a higher note (higher key) it plays faster.. because it is pitched up.

You can create this style of effect using 16 levels volumes though... lets say you have a sample like a piano note.. you push the note using pad 16 which is the highest velocity or volume... then after you do something like push pad 12, 08, 04, 01, so it repeats but fades out..

hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply,

i have seen other youtube videos where some guy pushes ONE single pad and that woowoowoowoowoo effect comes in, giving more lenght to a short sample and giving it like a smooth wah wah effect.

How ?

well I would have to see the video, but on the 2000 or 2000xl there is only two possible ways with one pad press...

1) the sample has the effect in it already like shown above in the video

or

2) they have the EB16 fx board and are using the delay effect.

the good part is, in your DAW or synth you can create an LFO or wowowow effect on a sound, and you sample a recording of that into the mpc... then you use 16 levels tuning (which does the pitch changing) like I said above... and the higher notes will get faster wowowoowwing and the lower notes will do it slower. Experiment and try some stuff out.

Like the Decay/stretch function in Recycle ?

I though there was a way inside the MPC... and yeah, i have seen this on 2000XLs videos

I'm looking for other examples on youtube

I understand what you mean, thank you for taking time to explain.

okay, well if you show another video... I can take a look and maybe I will know how it can be done. (or explain if it is possible with the 2000 or 2000xl)

I dont know about the effect in recycle you are talking about because I am only using that to chop and place markers so I can turn it into rex files.

However, you can also use loop mode in the trim screen to make samples longer... you can create a loop point at the end of the samples and when you hold the pad it keeps looping between the loop point and the end of the sample... play around with that too while you are at it.

also, keep in mind I am not talking about the mpc2500 which has more options than the old models... I do not know what special features you will find on those to help you... but in your video link it shows the mpc2000xl... and so I know what that person did for that effect.

okay so what menu is that effect located in the 2000xl? or am I right about it being a part of the sample that is being played on 16 levels?

I think we all agree on the fact that the guy is playing his tweaked sample on different pads with the 16 levels (tune) function on. But what i am looking for is how to tweak the original sample to give it a woowoowoowoowing affect and also give it more lenght, and, if possible, make that woowoowoowing effect match the tempo, kind of a patch phrase woowoowoowing delay effect

copy the sample to a new sample.
edit out everything but the trailing 'tail' of the sound.
assign to new pad.
give a generous amount of attack and decay.
play sound with note repeat or at any regular rhythm you want.
will be tough to get it perfect but that's one way to fake it.

for what it's worth, tremolo is just an lfo applied to volume. you can also get a similar effect using a lfo'd filter, but that sounds more extreme - the volume only (true tremolo) is a classic sound for guitars / electric pianos.

yeah man, this reminds me I fixed an issue and cleaned up an old old morley volume shifter pedal a month or two ago (the old ones had a piece of tolex inside to block the light sensors and it came loose) ... this creates a nice volume shift. I meant to set that up and record some stuff through it.

if your looking for this exact effect (pretty much) it will be in LOOP mode on your mpc, then you have to adjust your release after you set it, check at around 4:06 of this video.
