Now that I've had my MPC for over half a year, I've picked up a few things… mainly… drums are where it's at.

1. If your drum sounds suck, hang it up.
2. If your drums can't stand by themselves and make heads nod, hang it up.
3. A beat with a great drum track will win any day to one that is a better composition but has weak drums.

Now if I can just make the drums hit AND have a solid track behind them… ahh yes!

This forum is a great place and the beat battles are a great place to get yourself going!

Thanks!

you should thank god for this enlightenment after only 6 months.
I confirm this but there are tracks where the leading part is not the drumset and in those tracks the drumsounds can be anything (so to say). But the most (HipHop)tracks stands and falls with the drumsounds and its programming.

yeh man, totally agree. in the last 6 months if i start making the beat and when i mute the samples the drums dont bang, il turn the thing off.

That said, i have had instances where it didnt matter a heap.

Lately ive been chopping breaks and leaving parts on the tails of things, and then just layering my normal drum loop, and trying to throw hits in where they don't really belong, but ive been getting some bonkers results.
