I actually did some work on maschine right now and did a lo fi setting at 10khz with distortion and saturation and it did sound nice but is it still emitation of the real deal.
well they sound good.. grab one if it's cheap.. keep in mind that retro equipment is old.. spare parts can cost money (maybe more than what you payed for the sampler)
you may not like the workflow.. compared to something modern like the maschine which is quite visual and quick... it takes dedication to get anything out of machines like the s900/s950. It is slower to set up, you are stuck saving on floppies unless you get a floppy emulator which is sort of expensive...
basically, if it is cheap... grab one and try it out.... dont bother just because of the rumor that it sounds good... when you listen to dj premier you aren't hearing a stock 60 and 950... you are hearing the result of it running through a plethora of other gear.
it's hard to say what you should do... if it's dirt cheap get it.. if it's a tool you will really see yourself using (check for youtube videos) then maybe get one if the price is alright... if it's just an expensive non-real time effect box... then skip it.
