I am loving my mpc and loving digging.

I am wondering if there are techniques for pulling drums from samples. When the drums are open its no sweat but sometimes theres just one other instrument playing and its hard to isolate the sounds.

Just filters or is there other ways to do this?

on the mpc itself... you are pretty much stuck with looking for open samples.. or eqing.. or dealing with the instrument.... etc..

there are techniques possible with other gear or computer daws which might work on some samples... it involves phase inversion and stuff... the results can be okay but IMO.. look for open samples, it's the way to go.

Yup, pretty much stuck to sampling open drums on the MPC. But there are programs that can isolate instruments to extract the drums clean off a track, like Melodyne but I think its only doable from Mp3s. Some brainiacs were able to use Photoshop to isolate sounds but the process is tedious. Check around youtube, plenty of examples of products that can do it like Photosound.
