Discuss the various methods you use in music production, from compressor settings to equipment type.

I've recently made the decision to get a copy of reason to use with pro tools. I havn't got it yet so i havn't had the chance for trial and error. When you rewire reason into pro tool as an instrument track, is it possible to do your audio/midi sequencing right in pro tools? Or do you need to sequence in reason?

Sorry if this is an ignorant question, ive never used rewire and dont know much about it. The only software experience i have is fl studio, pro tools, and audacity.

I mainly wanna use reason to add instrumentation to my tracked out mpc beats as well as to make entire beats at some point.

Rewire locks the transports together and sends the selected audio streams from Reason directly to the Pro Tools mixer. You remain free to sequence/ record in either application as you wish. So yes you can track your MPC beats into Pro Tools and then add instrumentation which has been sequenced in Reason. That is the essence of the Rewire protocol.

Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated.

I can't wait to start fooling around with reason, it seems really fun to make beats on.

the craziest sh** happened...I copped reason 6.5 and it didn't come with a registration and license number. So i had to return it and now I'm waiting for another copy guitar center ordered for me...

After 13 or so years I'm gonna have to let my "yet" go. But yes you would think we could have had that before Reason added audio and Propellerheads is in my phone for a dollar...

Just to clarify and not confuse the OP, you can sequence in Reason and Rewire the audio to Pro Tools. Which is exactly what I implied earlier. That's what Rewire is there for.

Uhh I think you just made things more confusing. If you have reason and pro tools and have things you want to sequence in both. You should do it from pro tools... As you can't send midi out of reason. But you could send audio from either program into one another. But it wouldn't make sense todo anything but sequence in protools if you had devices you wanted to send midi too in both reason and pro tools.
