Necro's Drums

Was listening to a lot of Necro's beats today and noticed the drums on his tracks sound tight, but they all seem to have the same sort of effect on them (especially the raw sounding tracks). Take this one for example, I think Necro produced it:

A lot of his tracks have that effect on the drums. Can't put my finger on it.

Any ideas?

Yeah, I noticed that on his I Need Drugs album (only one I have of Necro). I had many thoughts because its possible, like maybe he sampled the drums from a very poor kept record with scratches and the whole 9. Sometimes I think its the bit grunger effect with a touch of filtering. Or could be that his outputs are messed up on his sampler and gives that glitch and he likes it.

I don't know, but yeah, I hear the effect on the drums. Sounds like cockroaches talking IMO.

He's using an ASR 10 or maybe an EPS 16+ on his earlier beats. I guess he samples his drums at a quite low frequency, maybe 22 khz. He often uses the same drum sounds on different beats, and he layers 808 kicks with his kicks a lot.
He also plays acoustic drums sometimes but mostly on his metal tracks i think

old beats are asr10 and new stuff is protools from the info out there (and according to him) his older drums sounded more like almost rock drums or maybe old rompler drum machine sounds... these ones are a bit different.. probably a kit he made from a break that he really cleaned up.

what is the effect you mean though? some sort of grime or something? His older tracks were more grimey and the newer stuff is pretty clean sounding. I think the fidelity/clarity is something he really brought up over the past 5 or so years.

I always liked his beats... sometimes his music content and voice etc can be a bit much but what ever... can't knock the vibe the guy gives with his beat production.

Whatever was going on with his drums, whether it was poor quality samples or messed up outputs, I really like glossed over effect it gives to them.

@mr_debauch: The effect I'm talking about is that grime/low quality sound, but at the same time the drums are either heavily compressed or something else because they sound nice and fitting. Just that sort of sheen thats over the drums. Hard to explain now lol :S

i think it might be just filtering and stuff running through his old sampler like stated above.

i would experiment with a lower sample frequency too.

sometimes it seems almost like he puts a LPF or something on his whole drum bus.
