Discuss the various methods you use in music production, from compressor settings to equipment type.

Hi all,

Here is a technique/tip that you might like. I've been using my S2000 the last couple of days and found two things to really work well on the old sampler and I wanted to translate those to my mpc.

When sampling in the S-series, you can directly trigger your sample chromaticly with a keyboard. And because you can't see the wave on your display, you adjust start and endpoints by ear as you trigger the sample (trying out different pitches). I found that this gives a lot better results on percussive samples and melodysamples.

To emulate this on the 2500, what I tried is a little extra work but worth it, I think:
Record a sample, keep it, have a empty chromatic drum program loaded, assign sample to all pads, go to trim mode, hit programmode and adjust start- and endpoint trying out different pitches.

Oh, and keep your eyes closed, or at least not look at the wave on your screen.

I moved it. It's something that can be achieved on several different mpc's. It's a production technique.

I always cut samples (especially the start point) by triggering at the lowest pitch possible (on the MPC2000: after sampling -> shift+5 -> PARAMS -> Tune -> enter 120 and hit ENTER)
Funny thing I realized on the 950: The Endpoint doesn't represent the sample point at different pitches (the endpoint number won't change of course but.......lets say you want to chop a drumbreak and set the start to the kick and the endpoint right before the start of the next drumhit (snare) at normal pitch, the sample will play only the kick but when you pitch it down a few octaves the attack of the snare will be hearable again :) )
