I thought I would just write this idea down which I've been using recently to beef up my sound library and its a dead easy way to get thousands of new sounds per hour..... hope this is useful to someone out there.
what you need:
a synth with loads of multisampled sounds eg (drum hits on each note)
a wav editor
recycle
mpc with ak sys.....
I got the pk6 and boosted it with 4 roms and I just have endless possibilities. It's like having 5 sample based keyboards in one and once
you know how to tweak it, the possibilities are endless. the arpeggiators are phat, you can get some mad patterns if you sample and chop up.
heres the point i'm trying to get to:
I created a preset on the mpc that plays every note on the keyboard and then I just hit record on protools, record a whole song with all the different drum sounds played by the mpc, name the track according to the preset in the synth. then add plug ins like valve emulations, compressors, time stretch etc and then save ithe whole file which is about two minutes long as a WAV. then I open recycle, notch the sensitivity up and EXPORT that as a akai preset to a file I've named according to the wav name.... then just click and drag the whole folder into the mpc.... presto, 66 sounds spead over the whole keyboard and edited with diffferent effects.
It's just such an easy way of building up your sound banks and takes two minutes to record all the keys, a minute to add effects... a mînute to chop it up in recycle and a minute to import the preset into the mpc... 5 minutes for 66 new sounds... Spend a week on it and you got some bad **** isht to work with guaranteed.
My synth has great sounds to start off with but the possibilities are endless if you work in the way I mentioned above and you can really build up varied sound banks using the original banks.
My sound library has explosed in size since I stated using this method and must say, combined with some of the synth sounds in the pk-6 and other machines, it sounds phat as isht... hope this is helpful.
