Naughty By Nature Bass sound?

So what did they use for their bass sounds? I know that the early 90's dance, house and electronic music touched upon with the DX Synth and Korg M1.

I always dug NbN production.

Haven't a clue. But that was an era where a lot of sine waves in Akai S racks were used. And i would guess a few of theirs used the main sample filtered as bass padding.

I know a dude who worked for Kay Gee at that time. I'll message him and see if he can tell me what machines Kay Gee was holding then beyond the obvious MPC60/SP1200s that most everybody had then.

that sounds like a bass guitar or bass guitar rompler sound maybe... that sound is not hard to find or make. Also sounds like a little 909 or short 808 type sound for the kick drum...

I'm pretty sure that it is Yamaha TX81Z's "Lately Bass" preset.
The preset was used heavily in 90s', especially for dance music productions.
If I remember correctly, Teddy Riley used to use two of TX81Z in unison, one unit is set slightly detuned.

What JVC said is absolutely correct! Most of NbN's bass sounds are either Lately Bass or one of the DX7 presets. There was also one of the Roland racks out at the time that had a very similar preset that got used a lot, can't remember which one tho. But it sounds 95% the same as the Lately.

yeah and also... that sound is very common in VSTi presets on synths... every daw probably even comes with a synth that has a sound like that. Especially DX emulating ones.
