I discovered a great way to create leads, melodies, etc when you're stuck for inspiration.
Grab your favourite track, load it into your DAW. Play it, and improvise over your favourite beat. Find the key of the track, and just jam. If you record the MIDI you can chop it up after and get some great patterns.
I used my QWERTY keyboard. Here's a video:
