MPC + FL Studio + Edison (of FL Studio)

I have FL Studio 10, picking up audio from my MPC and my Yamaha keyboard. MPC is ch1 of my mixer, Yamaha keyboard is ch2 on my mixer.

Im creating new sampler channels within FL Studio, for each part of my song Im wanting to record and I have my mixer selected for the Input/Output for each channel.

I have a drum pattern playing, in the step sequencer, inside FL Studio. Here is what Im wanting to do...

Im wanting the drum pattern sequence inside FL Studio to play, WHILE Im playing and recording my chops from my MPC 500, LIVE into a blank sampler channel in FL Studio. But on this new sampler channel, I don't want the drums from FL Studio to be recorded along with my live chops playing. (This is so that I can have my recorded chops on their own channel, for EQ and other FX only.)

Every time I've tried this tonight, FL Studio will record my chops, ALONG with the drum pattern in the sequence, that I'm playing along to. So the recorded file that is loaded into the sampler channel, has both the drums and the chops from my MPC 500.

HOW do I tell FL Studio to only record what I'm playing, and not what is playing inside the FL sequencer?

Also, if was to record a piano track from my Yamaha, and I have the rest of my song playing in FL Studio (so that I could play along to it), FL Studio, the way it's acting right now... would record me playing the piano track ALONG with whatever else I have playing/already recorded in FL Studio....ALL on the newly recorded track.

I have been at this for 4 hours now

that is odd... it's like you have a mic in the room and it's recording everything including what is coming out of the speakers.


what you need to do is record in song mode i think.. do it the way you record audio tracks. you should be able to right click the record button and pick what is being recorded.

the other thing I can maybe think of is that in your audio settings for your audio interface... some sort of internal routing is enabled...

Yo. Small suggestion... I'm unaware which OS + version you use, but here's how it's done in Windows Vista/7/8/8.1: Open the 'Control Panel' in which you open 'Sound'. The 'Sound' window appears. Select the 'Recording' tab. A list of all current recording sources appears. Make sure that 'Stereo Mix' is not set to default. I guess the MPC output is connected to your audio interface jack/phono input, so, dinstea, enable the audio interface input (for example: 'M-Audio Audiophile USB' if that's the one...) and set as default.

PS: The audio interface input is not necessarily listed under it's product name. If you only see cryptic/generic input listings then play a loop on the MPC, and then detect which volume meter activates on the list. Just avoid 'Stereo Mix' as that one records all sound playing on the computer.
