Can anyone help me identify this effects unit please?

You can see Simiah fiddle with some small black/red box all throughout this Beat Pete's session, but here is one good example where it can be seen clearly:

Does anyone know what this thing is? Looks like it has at least a sweepable filter envelope as well as a delay unit on it.
