Hey guys I hope I'm asking this question in the right place. I've been doing a lot of research lately trying to figure out how to get my kicks to sit better with my bass notes and although there is tons articles on this topic, I still haven't been able to find the right advice. I've been studying the waveform's of a lot of instrumentals from producers like Kev Brown, Dilla, 9th Wonder, etc.. and I've noticed that when their bass notes play with their kicks, the bass notes seem to be nudged slightly behind the kick, yet the two of them together have a very uniform sound. I've tried nudging my bass notes behind my kick and it just doesn't sound as uniform as when they play at the same time, but when I play them at the same time the kick doesn't cut through as well. I know I could use parallel compression solve this but I'm trying to refrain from using it. So basically I was just wondering if you guys nudge your bass notes behind your kicks to make them work together, or if you prefer to have them hit at the same time? Any advice would be MUCH appreciated.
