making tracks + using FX workflow

do you guys usually add FX (distortion, delay, etc.) WHILE making the beat....OR..... do you usually just make the beat dry and then add FX all at once, later on once everything has been played and arranged?

i leave all the mixing/fx for last after i've tracked from the mp to logic......mixing during the actual beatmaking
process slows me down and the internal mpc fx aren't that great so i just leave all the bells & whistles for after the beats tracked/arranged
