recording with software & hardware

I have a few Kontakt libraries that I like to play through Reaper. I also have a couple hardware synths and an MPC. All the routing is causing me confusion and I've yet to figure out how to run everything.

What I'm wanting to do is use my MPC 1000 (free JJ OS v3.16) as a my main sequencer and for it to record and sequence in-time, whatever I'm playing either through Reaper/Kontakt or my hardware synths.

A main question I have is, would I be able to:

1) Record me playing a piano for 8 bars from my software Kontakt vst onto the MPC 1000 track 1
2) Once I get the piano recording looping perfectly inside the MPC, press play and have it loop over and over on it's own track 1
3) While the MPC is looping that piano on track 1, record a synth line from my MicroKorg and have it on MPC track 2.
4) Then so on and forth, go to track 3 and record bassline while piano track 1 and synth track 2 are looping.

I would be using the Mackie Onyx 1220i as my mixer interface. Would a MIDI Interface be better (or necessary) for me to get this going this way?

(*PS in my example above, I'd would want the recorded piano track 1 to be playing back while I would be recording my synth on track 2, so that I would have something to play to and stay in rhythm)

Yes, Via midi, you should be able to do this. Im not all too familiar with VST's but i'm pretty sure the 1K can control it.

Correct. Track one will have whatever you recorded to it on there looping for the amount of bars the sequence is set to.

Yes. The midi out 1 or A (I forget), I'm pretty sure would control the vst, and midi out 2 or B, would control the MicroKorg. At this point the Midi out ports will be used so the VST and the Korg will be the only things you can sync via midi. Unless you daisy chain them up however, thats a whole other issue.

I'm pretty sure this is all possible.

I believe you would need some sort of midi set up to control the VST however as I mentioned, Im not all too familiar with VST's.

I'm not so sure does free os lets you to switch tracks during recording, but maybe.. if not - upgrade the OS
yeah you also need MIDI interface to play sounds with VST
