I was wondering if anyone can tell me how to make a bassline sound powerful even though it is played with relatively high notes (about an octave above a bass' e-string).
I can give you two examples to show you what I'm talking about.
Check out: 2Pac - "Do For Love" and DJ Quik - "Hand In Hand".
On both these tracks the bass is played relatively high, but it still has a really powerful sound. (I'm aware that the bass in "Do For Love" is layered with a lower octave on certain notes... but the higher octave is still really powerful.)
So what have they done to the bass? Compression? Or is there something more? Maybe it's just the specific bass sound they use???
