Layers

Hey guys I’m newish to making beats and this may sound like a dumb question but I just wanna know how people add so much stuff to their beats like I know how to find a dope sound then I’ll layer drums, bassline, and vocals over it but then I see some people add chords, strings, melody, and leads
Like what’s the process to adding those and what are those exactly lol
