Only using samples from 1 record

what up

when i make beats I only digg on one lp. I like to restrict myself, cuz i found myself not listning enough to the records. Missed some dope samples, and i feel that it makes me more creative. Cuz you have to find some kick/hats/strings etc etc so you have to digg deep and hear the record about a 1000 times. It's keeping me sharp

is it just me, or what?

nah.....thatz cool.....i like to challenge my self 2......one of the reasons for me buying the mpc....it forces me to create

there are no rules....but like he said i find myself missing good samples too.....this expands your creativity.....at least for some.....i see this in no way a cop out.......def. in my case cuz the mpc isn't the only piece of gear i own....

for me it works, cuz ik sample some shit on 1 lp...listen to another and find there others sounds that i like..and throw away some samples that "looks" to diff but still are dope. that's a shame..it's bit diff to expain

but also i dont use full lenghts samples, i chop everything up and program everything myself. en yet still use the lop function alot. I like to create my own sounds on the MPC.

When I posted that reply I was a little bent. No more drinking & posting. I agree on it's a challenge if you limit yourself to one record/song & you still pull off more than a loop.

For the record, isnt a little more challenge to build a song from 10-15 lps (drums, samples, stabs) and work to make it sound coherent and not like complete junk rather than sampling from one lp which probably was recorded/mastered/produced to sound the same. Just a thought.

I'm a jazz head, so alot of the stuff I sample, I also listen to for pleasure. They turn out to be my best tracks. Its hard to miss anything that way.

men it's weird. 2nite is started sampling from 5 diff records, and play them like a dozen time. I geuss my problem was/is that i don't listen well enough. But i've got some dope ass samples and heard some others that i save for another one.

i just had to realize that i can sample more times off the same lp. (not the same sample though )

boundries and limits can stimulate creativity for sure. look at monosyllabik on private press. all that from 1 break. 1 break, 2 bars of music. if you have heard the original sample you understand. if you want to be inspired listen to that song and the source and think about it.

but i still like diggin on 1 lp. i just sampled this dope piece of sound and it fits great with in my 2 bars of drums etc. Man sometimes i forget the feelin you get when you come up with something hot!!

ur def right on that one middl fngr. jazz is one of the best types of music to sample from

as long as you#re a digger then it's all good.


sample cd's is a no no

If i am bored I will go through my old samples, and use them in new ways. Or sometimes combine old samples, and end up making better beats than when i used them in the first place.
