Has anybody on this forum produced their own records yet?

if so I will definatly support, and buy your product.

Im kind of curious how much it would cost to press some recordsl. Anyone have an idea?

The only thing about getting records pressed is that you have to get em done in bulk. You cant just say, i want this cd put on 10 vinyls. There gonna make you buy 500 or 1000.

I'm from Moscow and my self and a few more people thinking about buying vinyl pressing stuff... it would cost us 10.000$ and there is a-lot of companies who doing stuff like this in Europe and anyway in US... who can press 1-10 copies... i don't know... the quality i guess will be lower than if you would press it on factory... but you know... its not for sampling this stuff... and for shows and play it in club its perfect... even Vestax got Vinyl pressing shit VRX-2000 i guess... or something like this... but this is kinda not good... and on www.htfr.ru you can find another stuff that you can install on your Technics turntable... so a-lot of ways

You can press a dub for about $40 to $50.

We pressed up 12" on three separate occasions, all the advice I can give you is Do NOT go to discmakers, it's definitely quality but the prices are so high you will never recoup. Eurpoadisc is good and Freeze is good as well.

I've done it many times. The cheapest I've managed to do was $0.70 cents each in Detroit if I did 1000. That was white jacket+shrink+labels (B&W). I think after lacquers and masters it was around $1,500 for 1100 or so. We gave away 400 promo, sold the next 700 and then did a re-press.

Depending where you are it might be cheaper to ship. Don't assume pressing closer to home is better.

Also, don't start thinking you need color covers and shit. You're wasting your $$. Unless you're going to press 5,000 upfront, it's not worth it. Dilated sold 60,000 copies of Work the Angles. It was a black jacket an a plain ABB sticker on the vinyl. You then have these idiots who press 500 with a cover and sell 10. Phatbeats, TRC etc... will only pay up to X amount per unit, so if your costs are over that, you won't be able to get dist.

I've done vinyl outside of the US, but it SUCKED. Canada to be specific. The UK and Japan are high quality for vinyl. The quality was shit in Canada, and I got nailed on importing into the US. I've done vinyl in NY and LA also, but it wasn't great. NY just isn't cutting any deals. The best place for the price was in Detroit (archer), and the sound was decent for the price. The website is expensive, but it was then also. When you show up the price drops a LOT. I still have the bill somewhere I think.

The best price for the quality is out in Cali, but it's a higher cost per unit. I don't have the contact info on me, but it's where ABB and Hiero press. So think of what Dilated or Defari sounds like and as long as your mix isn't ass you'll get something close.

I have mentioned this before, but make sure you MASTER for vinyl (don't use a CD master on wax...it'll be shit) and that you limit the vinyl to 12 minutes per side. Anything over 12 minutes will result in quality loss.
