What's more important the beat or the production of the beat

What's more important the beat or the production of the beat? I know both are important but the reason that I'm asking is because lately I've been trying to remake other peoples beats (Trak masters, Dr.dre, etc.) and the beats themselves are pretty simple but getting that beat to sound on the same level as dr. dre and trak masters and the neptunes is not easily done. I was just wondering how y'all felt about it and hope that y'all will give your 2 cents. Thanks.

I think those are 2 completely different things. If you talkin about the finished track with mc or whatever over it, then i think the production is more important. Cuz wack beats and dope production IMO result in a track that aint that bad. But dope beats with wack production, only means that its a dope beat. The beat cant save the track.

But if your just talkin about the beat, then the beat is more important. Once the beat is made, most of what they do after is make shit cleaner and reorganize better. So IMO the the beat is more important. If the direction of the beat gets through then its finished.

tight beats. but what the hell they be talkin about? bullshi* but the beats are hype.

i think the outcome of the beat is more important. who gives a flowers how its made, but if it comes out tight then you did good. out here people bang on trashcans and buckets and call it gogo. if the beat is tight and the person rappin flows over it the right way, it can be nice. i think its the outcome of the track. not how the beat is produced

The beat is the most important element cos thats the creative part of it, although the production values and the mix does play a big part in bringing out the best in the music.

example madvillan and the jaylib albums I listen to em cos i like the style and vibe of the music however i do wish it was mixed/mastered better.

whereas some commercial tracks have amazing production values the mix is balnced and it all sound very clean and big but i wont listen cos i dont feel the music.

I'm an artist first and foremost and a Producer second, but as a artist the beat is what gives me the power to write, if its banging the right way then its like the kick and snare and especially the hats with the other musical stuff going one give me the words like the beat is telling me what it should all sound like.

So its definetly the beat! It has to be spot on everytime!!

So as a producer you want to be making the beat with that in mind like your not just making a beat but making a complete song thats has a meaning.

I would say both ...

Even If its an good beat the beat can`t just be Looped plain for 3 mins
things need to happen you know .. example : intro ---- 1st hook --- verse ---Bridge --- Hook --- Verse --- Outro or somerthing like that

you can't polish a turd as they say... but then again some polished piles of dung have made it onto the airwaves and people say they like it so....... your guess is as good as mine?

u dont always need to follow the rules, some of my fav stuff sounds like it was ripped off cassettes, old jedi mind tricks, odb etc.. where the gritty, low production value actually adds to the character
