compression ?

hey everyone.
listen i like to use a little bit of compression to get an extra kick on the low end, but my problem is that when i use compression, u can hear any hiss or noise being amplified. is there something different i can do to eleminate these annoying sounds?

Is the hiss at the beginning of the sample or is it part of the main sample?
If it's at the beginning of the sample, just split the sample and reduce the volume of the beginning. You can also try one of those software hiss removers, alot of times they work pretty good ( I use waves x-noise).

just dont drive the gain to hard.

Compression can cripple as much as it can do good.

When used sorrectly for your type of sounds and mix
it can be great.

When used incorrectly for your sounds and your mix
it can be frustrating.

lower the gain on the high-shelf, that's just about all you can do to get the hiss out that the compression will boost.

poor SNR (signal to noise ratio) work on your getting the noise levels on your indiviudal tracks down as its is that which the compressor is bringing up to audible level...
