Recording from vinyl to PC

What's goin' on, I've been trying
to record from my turntable into my
computer via my soundcard. The problem I've encountered
is that the levels on my computer don't
detect the sound from the turntable at a sufficient level, and when
I record into something like Soundforge there are no wave images. Now
I tried this last week and the levels were fine and I could see the wave
images on the program but for some reason today when I try it
again everything on the computer's levels are low
whether I turn up the
volume on my dj mixer or the volume on the comp
uter, mind you I can hear the volume low
or very loud. If anyone knows a solution
to this problem or may have some
kind of idea to another way to hook it up please let me know.

Did you know that you have RECORDING properties on your sound card?

anyway check the input level on the soundcard. that should sort it out. also make sure that what u play in aint coming out at the same time, (FEEDBACK) not a nice ting there for mute the input level on the playback volume screen after u leave the recorcd playback screen. I'm assuming you know where all this is.

if your turntable don't have a preamp you need a phono preamp to play a turntable, but if you turn up the level in recording features i'm sure you can raise the gain once in soundforge, but they way vinyl is recorded you need a preamp, i use my home stereo phono input
