why does so many people want to be ...

producers/beatmakers? 5 years ago everyone wanted to be a dj and now everyone wants to be a producer. why? because it is so cheap these days to get started? because, programs like like fruity loops make it so easy to produce music? because, programs like fruity loops are pretty cheap (entry level programs)? as i read this forum more and more you have people purchasing top of the line equiment and do not know how to use it. why? is it the bling-bling? one would say, i just brought digi 002r, triton, and mpc how do i setup it up? what cables do i need? or how about, i have triton, faton, mofit, mpc and computer what should i buy next? i do not have a problem with wanted to make music but allot of this sh!t is getting out of hand.

so, my question is why do you personally want to be a producer or beatmaker?

my answer is, i went to school for music, i play professional and do not remember a day when i did not play a musical instrument (i play the drums (main instrument), keys, guitar)and the natural progression for me was/is to own a project studio.

what is your motovation?

my first piece of equiment was roland r-5 (still have it) and it cost $700 at the time (about 15 years ago) but now you could spend $149 (if you have a computer), get fruity loops and now you are a producer but are you really a producer?

you tell me what is going on in the world today.

on the real tho, i say the more people that do music, the better, creativity is something positive regardless, its better than selling d or some other bad sh!t kids be getting into, who cares, what are you threatened by youngsters with Fl and no music education, dont trip and do you. i know id sleep better at night knowing my son or daughter was on the computer doing beats than hopping busses and going downtown.

those people dont effect what im doing. they dont effect you either so why worry about it..just do what you do. as far as motivation, i just make music. i dont even know. its like a subconscious healing thing more then anything

Wuts good. I aint gonna lie i was one of those kids who got fruity and thought i was a producer. But i really got into it. I love music. I play trombone and all percussion in tha band. I play drums for church and im learning the piano. My motivation is thats how express myself. Its just a love.

i dig what you are saying but music/making music is an art and not the purchasing of equiment. i guess i take music serously but you are right about the kids and keeping them out of trouble. the only musically thing i can get my son to touch is his i-pod.

and about the bling-bling, well i have about 4 to 5 gigs a week basically studio work and about 5 live shows a month but in order to get my bling-bling i have to day trade each and everyday.

I think it's a combination of the "superstar producers" and the currently low threshold of entry that get alot of people to aspire to become producers.

For me, making beats it's the only way of making music regularily. Traveling for an hour in order to rehearse simply isn't compatible with my work schedule.

As for me I think its the love...I mean I come from a home where my parents use to have parties a lot and they enjoyed music a lot...... As far as the equipment goes I think people cop this stuff because producers we listen to today are using just about the same thing.......Every since I got pro tools I have been seriously thinking about taking a certification course or even getting a associate degree in audio enginering......Thats how much love I have aquire for music...I figure If I can land a part time job in a studio I can some way introduce my demos to someone who has the contacts...

You gotta have a plan.......map it out.........and then execute it !.....

I've always been around music an I never went to school but I record up an coming artists lookin for quality tracks, an to make the transformation over from engineer to producer wasn't that hard for me. I feel im more then a beat maker because I have a engineering background. hopefully within a few years im gonna have a nice project studio an beat factory.

I love being in the studio, behind the boards, trying to be creative.
It's a good feeling when you play a beat for someone and they like it.
Then the whole process of putting together a song begins.

well, before recorded music, almost everybody played some intrument at least a little. Aster recorded music, the elitism and hiarchy of capitalism discouraged many people from trying because of the time it takes to get good, which is what people want in our society. Now with the means of making music so accessible, we are going back to the pre-recorded music spread of musicianship, but now with home recording along with it.

As for why it is so big now, that's easy, exposure. you have producer superstars that even folks who don't read credits know about because they are all up in the song, and they are starting to overshadow MC's in someways, since there are so many MC's out there already.

I've always loved music. I can't play an instrument but that doesn't mean I don't love music and love hip hop. Then there's one guy I knew that was a coworker of my aunt's that I met when I was like 12. He was making music on FL back then and I was interested. Even though he was doing house/techno type of shit. I had a Mac so I couldn't use it though. Then this project came up my senior year in high school that everybody needed to do to graduate where you have to learn how to do something new or some shit. I chose to learn how to make beats. So I've been serious about it since then. Almost a year now.

But I ain't gonna lie. Apart from loving the music the money ain't bad either. I'm not making it right now but I know if I work hard enough I can.

many will try to produce but only a few will go far so it's nothing to trip about if the game gets crowded with FL 5.0 warez teens...

but yea, I had a keyboard with fake ass sequencer on it...one of those yamaha keyboards that recorded midi input. Then just moved on from there.

personally, I would rather it gety crowded with FL and reason teens than what we now have, MPC Triton / Motif users. It's like standard issue for hip hop producers, and the music they make tends to be standard too.

I'd rather hear something different, but most of the kids will probably just use FL to sound like what's on the radio.
