Some Advice Needed "Sampler?"

Okay guys i have a slight prob i just lost my job so i have to cut down on some external equipment which is good on the other hand cause i can do almost everything in logic and get more in tune with the program as a whole here is the deal.
I have powerbook g4,logic pro 6,motu 828,midi controller and a "roland xv-5080 and akai mpc1000 which i need to get rid of".
What i want to do is get rid of the roland and the akai so i can get the upgrade to logic 7,rokit 5 monitors and pay rent.
I can make all the beats in logic from my midi controller and there is enought sounds and new instruments in logic 7 that'll keep me up for a while.
The only thing i really need is a sampler something decent that can record like tv shows record player etc.i don't thing there is a way i can do it with the motu or the logic? if there is i would like to know however i just noticed that there is a audio in on the laptop 1/4 plug,say if i got the little RCA "Y" plug and plugged it in to there and have the rca's from the record player/tv.
If this is possible after i play the sound from the recordplayer/tv how would i record it into the laptop? Would i need som type of program to do this or am i just thinking to hard?

Is the turntable line out level and/or phono level? If line out level then yes you can do it. PS2, XBOX, VCR, DVD player and TV should be line level and you should have no problem with that.

You would need a wave editor, Bias Peak for mac should be good. You can record the line in into Bias Peak and edit the sample inside there.

Your laptop can be your sampler (since you are hurting for cash), use the line ins on the laptop/motu. Motu is the audio interface, connect your PS2, XBOX, VCR, DVD player and/or TV to the motu ins (using the right adapters). Start up your wave editor and record the audio coming in from the PS2, XBOX, VCR, DVD player and/or TV through the Motu.

Okay i just found out that the audio in on the laptop is a phono not a line level and my friend was telling me i need a hi-fi amp? something like that?

Every laptop that I've known/seen has line level line ins.
I've never seen a laptop with phono ins.

Try hookin up your tv to that input anyway.

You have a laptop, 828, and Logic. What else do you think you need to record stuff? I really don't get it. Why are you even looking at the built-in audio input on the laptop? you have an 828!!! Plug everything into the 828, and hit 'record' in Logic. If you're not doing that already, what are you using the 828 for? An expensive paper-weight? And what are you using Logic for if you're not recording stuff with it? That's what it DOES! If you need to edit, chop, normalize, stretch or whatever the audio that you've recorded, you can use the wave editor in Logic - it's not as comprehensive as Peak, but you'll be able to do pretty much everything you need to.

Oh, for the turntable you do need a phono preamp before you go into the 828. If you have a DJ mixer, just go through that, otherwise get a separate phono preamp for $20 or so from an electronics store.

By the way, you can use Logic's built-in sampler to play your sounds from the keyboard and sequence them, but IMHO that sampler SUCKS for doing that quickly (going from hearing a sound on a record to playing it). The MPC is a million times quicker for that, so think twice about dumping it.

No i use logic for recording/editing and i have the 828 for the mpc and the roland im pretty new to this so i did kinda spend money where it didn't need to be spent but now i need to shave my equiptment its kinda better cause now i can limit myself to the program and just that.
So basically i can take the rca's from the tv/recordplayer and plug them in the back of the 828 in's and just open up logic play the record/tv and it should record? Im waiting for my friend to bring his record player thu to try it.

Yeah, you've got everything you need, except maybe the $20 phono preamp for the record player. Just plug everything into the 828, go into logic, and select the input (or input pair for stereo) you want to record from. Hit record and it'll all be right there, ready for editing, looping, sequencing etc. You could even go without the mixer very easily.

BTW, do you really need the upgrade to Logic 7? I have 6 and looking at the feature set of 7 and the price tag made me decide to wait for 8... The MPC might be something you'd want to hang on to though.
