cleaning up vinyl samples

I'm new to the MPC. Just had it 3 weeks but really getting into it.

I know this topic was perhaps gonna be a tutorial on this site but I'll ask anyway.

When I'm sampling from vinyl how can I rid of the popping from the dust?

Sweet. I thought there was some technique!! My needles are kinda old maybe that doesn't help either?

If you have something like Soundforge on your PC, you can get plugins to remove pops and clicks, like Sonic Foundry NOise Reduction Suite, Steinberg DeNOiser.

do what tutor said, but also take care of your records. get new needles and clean your wax. for cleaning tips search this board i think i saw some sometime and look on the board at www.asisphonics.net they had a good thread on vinyl cleaning there. you can probably still pick up some cleaner spray at www.turntablelab.com store too

If you're needles are old, they may damage your vinyl Think about it.
To tutor : are these cleaner plugin good? i've never tried that, being affraid of loosing hi frequencies.... ? ?

definitely clean your wax, but honestly I like the crackels and pops. If I didn't I'd just sample cds or use a keyboard.

word @ counterspace....that's what vinyl is all about the grit!!

Where in Holland are you? I was over there last year. Wish I was there now..lol.

I recommend definitley cleaning with just plain water and sometimes i let them spin dry.

Ortofon concord needles are definitley the best quality (sound wise) I've ever come across. Especially the silver ones. There are others but for more abrasive use.

Tone arm height adjust should be set to 4 or 4.5 with the concord needles.

Definitley balance the needles properly; slide the weight on the turntable till you get it to float freely by itself. This should be your zero setting. Then carefully rotate to drop the needle so that the needle won't cut into the vinyl so bad when you play them. (keep in mind this is not recommended for dee-jaying) this is audiophile playback and for you to get the best possible sound quality and not abusing your vinyl. Clean the cartridge terminals once a month with a q-tip and some alcohol. replace cartridges every two years and needles twice a year.

I got some trouble with my decks lately. I have two identical turntables (Vestax pdx2000's ) and one of them started to make this loud pop-noize every now and then. I've already replaced the stylus, and it still does it. I think it may be the cartridge itself, but i don't want to buy a new one untill i'm sure what the problem is.
Anyone got a clue what this is, or how to resolve it?

well to narrow it down flip the setup and switch the cartridge to the other table and see if the pop moves to the other deck. if so, you sherlocked it and know what needs replacement.

cracks and pops are one of the main reasons to sample from records. ur gonna have fuzz sampling from records no matter what. so if u dont want it then just find a new way of sampling. but personally i think cracks pops and fuzz make the rawest beats
