So swing only affects the track?

Swing time again,

I have just done a search and found some interesting things on swing.

Does swing only affect the track it is applied to e.g hi hats at 62% on track 2.

I dont really use the tracks at the moment as I make my sequences copy them then add stuff to them or erase things from them and use my mixer to cut things in/out.

Yeah Roundy I was just copying sequences and adding and taking away stuff.

I found its so much better using the tracks though, it gives you alot more options and lets u do things easier and keep your beats more organised in a way. I'd give it a go pretty soon just to see how it is!

no. u can set it for the track or the pad. i set it for my tracks

or just for selected pads, hit a bunch and it keeps track of which ones you hit.

only within the selected track, at least on the 3000...

I have been thinking the same thing for a while to start off with I was getting confused about the tracks, but I fully understand it now and I amgoing to give it a go today and start using them, the sooner the better!!

i personally cant believe people dont split stuff up on to tracks- how do you guys effectively use the mute functions?

all and i mean all my songs are split between elements i want to be able to mute- in house that can be all drums parts- track for bd, hats, sn, percusion, then i can mute and unmute any part at any time...same with all melodic elements....bassline on one track maybe two- one normal and one with a variation- or maybe the second one goes to a different sound or an effected version of the bass line- whatever i decide can be selected as quickly as hitting a pad....

most of my tunes are recorded live in that i mute and unmute on the fly- only complex bits or stuff i dont have enough hands for i program- it also means you can audition rhythmical ideas quickly...

use tracks and use that mute function!!

I feel really stupid at the moment I have been using tracks splitting all the different parts onto tracks just now and I been thinking how am I going to know whats on what track....didn't think of naming them did I??!?!?!?! doh.

Also it's remembering to change track before you record parts Iv'e done that a couple of times this morning... oh well it's all about the learning, trial and error etccc..

But to greg I have been using the track mutes and solo and I understand what you mean about it being very convenient. It's ace because you can just leave a loop going for a bar or 2 and then drop the rest back in cool..

Thanks for all the advice though my beats are sounding nice and sharp, deep and crisp and even!

he he the old pizza sound- deep, crisp and even....

good stuff roundy- may have misread but thought for a moment you were putting all data onto one track which would have be insane- but yeah name all tracks and all programs and all midi instruments....id even go so far as to add program change messages at the beginning of all tracks to ensure all tracks are always pointing to the right program, synth or effect unit...

Can you explain a bit further, I know a program is a collection of sounds over 16 pads?

Could you say have 4 banks of programs then flick between them or something?
