REASON OR CUBASE

I WANT A NEW SEQUENCING PROGRAM

SHOULD I GO WITH REASON OR CUBASE

PLEASE DONT TELL ME IT DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU LIKE

TELL ME YOUR HONEST OPINION
WHICH ONE SHOULD I USE OR DO YOU KNOW OF ANOTHER ONE THAT IS AFFORDABLE AND STILL HAS THE QUALITY IM LOOKIN FOR

YOUR ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

well a few things you should know. Reason and Cubase are TOTALLY different things. Reason is a self-contained rack of synths/samplers/fx with a sequencer. it does not record audio. Cubase is a DAW. it records audio, MIDI, sequences and allows you to use VSTs and AUs.

so the real question is: what are you looking to do? if you are planning on doing any type of audio recording Reason is out. yes, there are ways to put pre-recorded wav files into it but as a workflow audio recorder it's not an option. if you do not need to record audio and just want to have a bunch of great sound making tools at hand then it is a great option. it's light on CPU and is very easy to use, especially if you are coming from the hardware world. now, if you are going to need to do audio recording etc then i suggest that you take a long look at the many other options out there besides Cubase. it might not be a great program to start on at this time. now, before all you Cubase users get all pissed just hear me out. Cubase is getting old. it's interface is not very good. it is very poorly coded. the company has been bought and sold twice just this past year. that should tell you something. now i know plenty of great music has been made using Cubase and all that. i'm just saying that for someone brand new to the game it might be better to start on something that is a little easier to use, a little more reliable, and that is better supported. the future of Cubase has been in limbo for a few years. there are many other options out there to consider. Logic (if you have a Mac), Sonar, Nuendo, Tracktion, Pro Tools. and if you want something easy to use and powerful then i highly suggest checking out Ableton Live. again, i'm not crapping on Cubase. just saying there might be a better place to start from scratch.

oh and teej ? F Y I, the list you privided as alternatives ? Well, NUENDO is part of the cubase family.( in case you didnt know They are both from steinberg) Im just curious, Which cubase version is getting old anyway?
And as for starters in the GAME, nuendo and protools are from from easy to use. They both have a steep learning curve.

Anyhow, It all depends on what you need. I think ableton is a great tool and a must if you are into timestretching but you can also check out the cubase se because its a cheaper alternative than the full blown cubase sx and its around 100 bucks.

i'm aware that Nuendo is a Steinberg product. i think it is also much nicer to work with than Cubase. that of course is a matter of opinion. yes, it does have a lot of features geared towards surround mixing and post-production that many musicians would never use. just offered it has an alternative considering Cubase hasn't exactly been well maintained recently, along with Steinberg's ever-shaky situation. each release seems to be released with way too many bugs and it started to fall behind on features when compared to other DAW programs. i agree that it is not easy to get started with. Logic is getting better but it's still a little cryptic for beginners, as are all of the rest. everything will have some learning curve initially. that's why i suggested Ableton Live for it's ease of use. i'm assuming you interpreted my post as me trying to diss Cubase or something. not at all. i know many people that use it daily and it serves them quite well. just offering some other alternatives to check out. when i say Cubase is getting "old" i just was describing it's workflow and method of getting stuff done. SX3 has received some streamlining and the inclusion of Warped audio is good, which they licensed from Ableton Live.

Not at all, I just thought you were talking about the "OLD " version of cubase, Like the vst 32 or the version before it.

Cubase allows you to record audio and you can use it in conjunction w/ Reason and MPC if you got one. You can't record audio in Reason, so it can only take you so far.

If you are a beginner, you will have to use SOMETHING to get busy, so there will always be that learning stage no matter what direction you go.

Acid Pro is probably the easiest program I ever used, I was makin beats on that beeyatch 15 minutes after I loaded it on my cpu. Just something to consider.
