I don't have the xv5080 I have the xv5050, but if I remember correctly the only differences is the xv5080 has 32 midi channels( xv5050 has 16), and a sampler, but anyway you should be able to do alot with it. It has 4 sound layer technology, like the proteus 2000, so you can combine different sounds together to make some interesting sounds. In my opinion the factory sounds( patches) are not really geared to hip hop but if you put in alittle time to make your on sounds( patches) then I think you will be very pleased. I mean if you think about it everyone's using the preset sounds, so to sound different you will have to make your own. Peace.

the 5080 is not a sampler in the traditional sense. it does a have a SCSI port which allows you to connect a SCSI CDROM drive for loading up Akai and Roland sample libraries though. you're not going to get the same amount of control as you would with a regular sampler but you should be able to playback just fine. btw, how much did you pay? i just saw a 5080 with max RAM and 2 SRX boards included for $999.
