I'm thinking about gettin an additional sampler to use with the mpc and I was wondering if the Emulator or Proteus X software sampler is just as good as getting an S2000 or S5000. I already have the E-mu 1820m audio interface so all I'd have to do is buy the software. Let me know what you all think. Thanks in advance!

i have the s 2000 and i wouldnt recomend it

theres nothing wrong wit the sound quality and theres no shortage of power, but it's really slow and cumbersome to use, it lacks a lot of modern editing features.

on the plus side the eb16 fx board can be installed, has some of the nastiest digital delays ive ever heard

Is the Proteus X basically the same thing? I have a Proteus 2000 with some extra ROMs right now and if the Proteus X is the same as the emulator with all the sounds of the Proteus 2000, I was thinking about selling that for the X. Thanks for the info. I'll check it out!!

proteus x isn't a sampler, you can load the emu sound banks but it's isn't a sampler like the emulator x

or do you need an external usb midi hub?
It comes with MIDI connectors(emulator x). I'm not sure on which one you might wanna control...Emulator X or Proteus X?

All I'm sayin is if I get the emulator X and buy the sounds (proteus, mo phatt, etc.) to load into it, it would be like havin the rackmount version of the Proteus. Also, having the emulator X is like having an external hardware sampler correct?

As far as the midi plugs go, I just would need the software. I already have the 1820m with the daughter card.

The cards with the Emulator X do come with MIDI I/O.
Thank for you all's replies. Here's the link:

i don't think you can buy the software unless you already have one of the cards, i don't see any provisions for buying just the software on the emu site

someone correct me if i'm wrong

have you never try to learn how to use it. It's my first sampler and with Mesa and Sound forge for editing audio tranform etc It's a nice sampler.
But It can't stand comparison with today computer sampler.
It Rock solid with no blue screen of death etc lol...

the software only works with the emu card I have the 1212m and I opted not to get the emulator x software until now. The upgrade is $99 if you register your product with them. I am planning on using the emu x with my 2000xl.

Yeah I just bought that Lootpack album like a week ago. It's the real! And the hardware and software go hand in hand, so you'll need both.
