I was wondering why I cannot control my VST instruments with my keyboard in cubase sx1,is it because my keyboard is hooked up via USB,I HAVE A MIDI 2 USB CABLE, On the Cubase transport I get a level for midi in but no level for out also i have no control of the virtual keyboard.....I have sound and yes I can play the VST by clicking on the key with the mouse.

you have to setup the vst on the midi track. IM walk u threw it
after you go to vst instrument an pick your vst go to the left side of the screen an where it says In: All Midi Inputs then Out: Not connected
in the out select the vst you wanna use an now it should work. Also if your using a vsti like sampletank you gotta make sure your midi channel matches the instrument ur using. so if your using chan 2 strings,4 bass,5 horns they have to match up to the channels in sampletank. Hope this helps you, your gettin a midi signal so its working I think ur just missin a step.

take your elbow off the keyboard???

Im kidding bro... did you say the cable from your midi keyboard was midi to usb? or usb to usb.. my midi keyboard is hooked up to cubase with a usb to usb cable. no problem. I do recall having a problem like your having, im trying to remember wat it was...im at the office at the moment...when i get home I'll hae a look..

oh actually try this, open an empty MIDI track, assign the desired vst instrument to the OUT, have in set to all midi devices and then CLICK RECORD ENABLE on the midi track, the little button should highlight to RED. i think thats the prob I was having back in the day

go to Midi controls on Cubase and select your input device to the midi channel your keyboard is plug into of your midi to usb device. it dont get any simpler than that.
troubleshoot that it even works for example is your midi connection even recognised by the pc?

Try using a VSTi standalone like Native Xpress Keyboard etc. and see.
