plug in recommendations for nice distortion

hey whut up?
i was wondering what some good plug ins for a nice distortion. i use sound forge or acid and recycle to cut up samples. but i sometimes want to crunch them up a bit and the distortion on sound forge and acid that comes with it just plain sucks.

any ideas?

AmpliTube LE is nice... A great amp simulator...

For something free that is half-way decent... Search for Cyanide... I had it and it's a free VST Plug-in for distortion... Not the best, but it's free and with enough tweaking can give you some cool results... I found it best to distort things and then EQ them and layer the distorted sound with the original...

I don't really use plugins but I've heard good things about this one. It's free so you might as well try it.

Pluggins are great for so many things but there are some areas where I will always only work in the analogue domain, distortion is one of these..

Distortion pedals are so cheap (maybe cheaper then a pluggin) and there are some really excellent ones out there. Apart from all the usual overdriving techniques, I use the overdrive on my fr777 and an excellent sounds Accenter Tool-1

You really can not beat or analogue distortion.

I kind of have to agree with punkDISCO. Distortion/overdrive almost always sounds better in the analog domain. And there are many cheap options; you can overdrive pretty much anything that has an analog input. Overdriving the mixing desk works great, as does overdriving a tape recorder. Distortion pedals are only a couple of $ secondhand. Unless you're working exclusively in a DAW, try something analog.

Some of these newer distortion/amp simulator plug-ins sound awesome though man... As long as he's looking for a plug-in for distortion.... I endorse Amplitube... I used it on a few tracs... Recorded guitar straight into my mixer (after a DI Box) and ran it through there... It was much better than miking up my boys amp or running it through a distortion pedal because you can edit it later which you can't do with these other options...

Amplitube sounded better than most of those inexpensive distortion pedals anyways... I mean it really sounded like my boy was playing on a pair of Marshall's cranked up with some heavy gain...

There's advantages to outboard gear and plug-ins when it comes to distortion like any FX processor... It's a matter of preference...

i checked out a plug in last night, that i added to some one hit drum sounds called izotope trash i believe. it ended up sounding pretty nice.
nice and dirty.
i have to say i was pleasantly surprised.
i do hear what ya'll are sayin on the overdrive/distortion pedals. get that nice analog crunch.
but i was pleased with the results i got from that plug in.
google it and try it out, u can test it for like 10 days or somethin.
i am always wanting to try something new, just to check it out you know?

co-signed, i'm using an old Ibanez Overdrive (the first one) and the good old Big Muff !

u know Ewald aka Accenter303 from austria ? He does a very good job, has modificated some of my gear

No, I dont know him but had quite a lot of emails during my 4 month wait for the Accenter; he seems like a nice guy.. As you probably know, the Accenter is only made in batches of 4-5 and only a few production runs each year, because of this you have a wait for delivery. It is definitely worth the wait as the Accenter is an incredible distortion unit. Probably the only distortion unit ever designed primarily for a 303 but also for synths. It is also good for guitars but designed for synths.

Big Muff has dirty analog sound - there's only one problem you must use it with a 9V block, cause with an AC adapter you'll get A LOT of noise this should be no problem, but you have to open the pedal remove the block every time you don't use it, otherwise it will be emty if you need it next time


... but it's vintage and analog - so who cares ?

How do you think this thing would work on drum samples... I'm looking for a good distortion unit to run my drums through... Never heard of this... Any info on this???

witch one - the big muff or the accenter tool ?

The Accenter... I've heard of the Biug Muff, but never the Accenter... Just curious... I was looking into getting a Sansamp PSA-1 which I know is awesome for distorting drum sounds... Problem is everyone else knows as well... I'm always into trying out different equipment so I can have my own tools and my own sound... He mentioned the Accenter being a synth distortion unit... Just wondering if anyone knows how it sounds on drums...
