What are Ghost notes

I keep on hearing about ghost notes. Can any one explain what these are
and how to use them.

they are really really quiet notes placed in the sequence to give it more flow. i mean really quiet. so you dont really notice hey there is an extra kick or snare there and there.

Thanks, I have been using notes like that before but didnt know that
was what ghost notes are.
