article about how Hebie Hancock uses Reason and other software. for those who do not know who Hebie Hancock is, well he is "one" of the main artist to make the synth popular (along with joe zawiful (weather report), emerson (emerson, lake and palmer), stevie wonder and others).

Too bad Herbie jumped the shark years ago, last live show of his I saw people were leaving like someone yelled fire. I held out, but had to leave cuz homeboy is burnt out. he should go back to a rhodes and an odyssey and have a guy on drums, bass and some horns. That was his best stuff. Now he's reachin, badly.

I'll check the article though.

elmacaco,

i agree with you there is nothing like the head hunter and thrust album but the article is about the "sign of the times", those days are gone. why bring a rhodes, odyssey etc to a gig when you could just bring a lappy, does not make any sense.

the part of hebie reaching badly there are allot of artist reaching badly for alternatives to hardware. it is the "sign of the times".

there are individuals claiming that reason has replaced motif, triton and faton (the roland module). i am not into sound design but there are allot of folks that say reason can do the same as the above mention modules and allot more.

i understand where you are coming from, i just enjoy technology. the Apollo spaceship will get you into outter space but the space shuttle is a better ride.

yeah, but some cats get into technology for technology's sake.

Sure it offers great convinience, but if the music suffers, like herbies on that Karma (oh man it was bad,) what value does that convinience have?

the opening act keyboard player had a Rhodes, a juno 106, and a moog prodigy, and they sounded more modern, groovey and had the whole place dancin. I never thought I'd see the day where herbie couldn't follow his opening act.

elmacaco, the more i read your post the more i see you know nothing about music. herbie hancock is a jazz musician. actually a jazz great.
period. herbie started out with miles davis. all of his dance music is sh!t music compared with his jazz stuff.

Dude, you are not going to tell me about Herbie Hancock, I know he's Jazz, and for me, his 60's and 70's stuff is much better, and I don't mean hedhunters, that's cool, but fat albert rotunda and sextant kills headhunters.

He wasn't playing dance music, he was playing jazz, and it sucked, When's the last time you saw him live? His lost the plot. if you take notice, his best work has been under the direction of good producers, when he's in controll you get much less satisfying results because he just doesn't know when to stop. Remember, he was a session player for a very long time.

I still respect the guy for what he did, but seeing him live like that was a major disapointment.

You know, you remind me of the dweebs in my High School that would say "You don't like Led Zepplin, you're not a true fan unless you know their birthdays like us"

F u C K you and the horse you rode in on.
