layering...

when i try and layer two samples on top of one another i often get this **** up synth sound or something (hard to explain)... i'm talking specifically about kicks / snares / hats... i'm throwing each sample on different tracks and even assigning the same sample to two or three different pads with different filters and e.q.'s...

was wondering if this problem is common and am not sure how to cleanly layer two of the SAME snares over top of each other without them getting that wierd synth sound every four bars or whatever it is...

any advice?

The wired synth sound, are u layering 2 to 3 of the EXACT same sound?
In the EXACT same tick, ie 3 EXACT same kicks on 001.01.01?

Try layering 2 to 3 different kicks.

Try layering the 2 to 3 of the EXACT same kicks but on different quantize ticks ie. 1 kick on 001.01.01, the same kick on 001.01.02 and so forth.

Or if you have the 3 kicks on different pads you can tune them up-down 1 value at a time until the synth sound goes away. Make the params different on each pad and the sound will go away most likely, they can't be EXACTLY the same or you may get that sound you are hating.

Like Lamp said you gotta use some variation as far as the tuning.Alot of times the sounds are on the same freq which kind of distort it and give it that synth sound.Or just layer differnet kicks,snares etc.

You had a REAL question, so it's all good.
If you had asked how to save your samples
on your MPC then I would have came at you
sideways with RTFM. It's all good though.
