Quick question ??

I just talked to a rep at sweetwater.com.... He told me that in order to run the digi 001 my mac has to have a seperate hard drive.... Is this true, and are they talking external or can I just use the 60 gig hard drive that comes with the Mac G4.... I would use the mac for music only??? Thanks for allt the help .........

Pro Tools runs on just one drive, but to get top performance another dedicated audio drive is recommended. It can be internal (here in sweden a 60 gb drive is about 120$). The point of using an external drive is if you want to bring your data to another studio or be able to use with a laptop (external drives are about 250-300$ for a 60 gb firewire drive). As far as internal goes it´s an ordinary IDE drive (same as for PC probably cheaper in a PC store than in a music- or MAC-store) and fairly easy to install. I like the Seagate Barracuda models, they´re reliable and fairly quiet. If you go external LaCie makes good performance drives.

the digi001 will run on your boot up drive, in fact youll be running the software on your boot drive, but its recommended to to run your audio files and pt files of the secondary drive, mine runs up to 20 tracks with no chug and a buncha plug ins. no problem, no crashes, i got a single drive 800mhz quicksilver, with 768 ram. i couldnt run more than 7 tracks without chug when i was running my songs from the boot up drive, it makes a big difference.

you dont need an external drive, there too much money, thats what cdrs are for.

I got an 80gig internal Maxtor drive for 80 bucks at best buy, i installed it in a minute, you just take out the dip switch and plug it in....and I have a gang of stuff on there, mp3s, samples, my video files, etc...runs perfect and i havent even cracked 10 gigs of usage. get one.

price....not really, same as other daw/sequencers....when people talk about expensive pro tools plug ins theyre talking about ProTools TDM plug ins, ProTools LE runs RTAS format plug ins which are the same price across the board, Waves and McDSP got some really good package deals for RTAS. And in my opinion all you need is the packaged plug ins and maybe one Waves package for mastering.
