Best sampler (not seq.) Hardware or Software?

Need help spending money.
Everyones buying more roland cards.
So I go to cop for my box, and I'm hearing
ish that is not much better than I could program myself.
Then I see they got very realistic sample disks for the
MPC4000 w/ multilayers, etc.
Sure, I can get more synthy strings for the Roland.
But I want multisamples of real instruments that
sound like live players. Horns, strings, and Guitars
being my main ish.

So, in lew of more keyboards & cards,
what do yall suggest?
A better hardware sampler, like the 4000,
or a software sampler clocked to my
ProTools, like GigaSampler, or whatever.


I ain't post this in the 4000 spot, cus I want
some info from people who ain't loyal to
one machine.

I appreciate any tips.

Do you rock tha Mach 5? Will it read sample libraries that work
for other sampler/players? I checked out some specs
but haven't used it...

I have a Fantom Already...Not the sampler joint, becuase I
use the 2000XL and soon, another dedicated sampler,
hence, my questions....

Trupro, I know a bunch of cats that run in film score circles, and most films today have gigastudio orchestras. They used to fly out to eastern europe cuz it was cheap to hire a good orchestra, but now most big scorers have a dedicated PC with gigastudio. The sound is amazing, really good samples, but it's serious HD space.

For pro uses, you don't want to have to make multilayered sample sets on any sampler, it takes way too long to do it right, and giga is killing everything right now, grerat program, and you can even get away with using a not so new PC to run it dedicated to giga. Not necessary, but it is how most of the scorng pro's do it now.

If you are on a mac, Logic's exs sampler can load the giga libraries, but it isn't the same from what I hear.

I run mach5 as ancillary sampler.


It will convert almost any format multisamples to be used with mach5

your gonna open up a can of worms with this topic.. luckily your on the right forum, so most of your replies may be for the hardware.
I personally don't like computers for music, but that doesn't really mean s#it because good music has been made on both hardware and software. It's really up to you. The new emulator-X software/hardware combo for the computer looks illmatic. I really don't see why anyone would need anything else. I'm even considering it myself. But it's up to you. I LOVE my old samplers.. I'm a sampler junkie.. the older the better, but I like how they feel.. I like how they sound. I'm not looking for new technology.. you may... what are you seeking when you buy a sampler? Features? Ease of use? Upgradability? Figure these out first, but don't let anyones opinion sway you. We can all tell you software, and you end up loving hardware (or vice versa). Try em both.

has any of you hardware sample lovers got an opinion on the z8?

i am real fed up with lack of mac support, and libraries, and dodgy optical knobs for my yamaha a5000 so am looking into getting something different. ie. s6000 or z8... your opinions are appreciated.

realistic multisampled programs...I dunno, I don't think people
are making the goods for that thing as far as competition for
string orchestras etc. Might upgrade to one anyway cus I love MPs...

Machfive can read gigas. In fact it reads it all. incl akai sample cd's and all that. You let Machfive search for files once and next time you load the plugin, every multisample is ordened in a good browser. Machfive is pretty stable and is not much of a cpu hog, depends on how many samples you load of course

Emagic EXS is a good stable multi sampler also. And is even more cpu friendly then the Machfive. EXS24 only reads soundfonts tho, so you need a sample converter to convert into soundfonts. EXS converts the soundfonts into EXS compatible programs

Halion is nice to. SOund is the best ( i think ) and is also cpu friendly. Reads soudnfonts, gigas and other formats.

Kontakt is good. Sounds great, lots is features but is very cpu UNfriendly. If I run like two of them, my host reaches the end of the feared performance meter

These are softsamplers and arent really samplers I think. None of these actually samples. You need another program to record etc..
So best sampler I think is the S6000. Great interface, great sound, lots of outputs and usb and scsi. A laptop with Aksys makes him complete.

z4/8 and 4k reads akai s1000/3000, S5/6k, emu and more. With a sample converter (extreme sample converter does this real good), you can convert anything into akp. Wich the z4/8, s5/6, mpc4k reads. mpc4k has 4 layers per part. for split velocity

i found a gigastudio demo once along time ago. I **** played with some of the demo sounds on there and the shit was amazing.
