ok, well i know great drum tracks start with great drum sounds, so I'm curious how to process each individual hit before i get assigned to pads. I usually sample snares, then sample again by filtering out both the mids and lows, then filter only the mids, and layer the three to get a nice snap from the snares. (q-tip interview gave me the idea) So now my problem is kick drums, I know boosting the lows a bit give it more boom, but how do i keep the crispness and add the boom element. Also, hihats are kinda hard to sample, I probably have a hundred hats, but I don't know where to cut or boost frequencies to get them to sound bright and jumpy on tracks, but i don't always want the hats to be loud. Any tips? I sample through a cheap bellari mic pre to add a touch of warmth to all, but many of my sounds still sound flat. I aim for drum sounds similar to E. Sermon and Dre, rather than heads that make the more laid back type sounding stuff like Atmosphere.
