How much time do you all spend on perfecting your drum sound ?

not long. i'm a drummer anyway so i can put together my drums rather quickly

Do you mean as far as sound? Or arrangement? Both?

Time spent on getting that right sound....

however long it takes to make it right.

i spend 37 minutes and 16 seconds and thats what you should do.

It normally takes me a few hours to get a certain sound..Wondering if it took anyone else a while...That was a good one "surj" that gay ass 37 min. Response..

I spend allot of time, but its stretched out through the whole process of a song.

To start, I have been collecting drums for a while, when I have writers block I just work on my samples.

so I don't how to even guess how much time I put into most of them from the start....but, when Im in writing mode,I never start with sounds that I know are gonna need much time.

I do as much as I can in the MPC while I make a beat: layering, filtering etc.

I like to try and get my drums close with layering, probably cuz there is only a couple eq's onboard (and they aren't exactky good enough to WANT them on everything, although sometimes)

Once I track it all out to individual tracks in logic, I do some eq/ compression..reverb..usually while I wait for the vocals/ bass player to happen.

once everythings tracked..I can sometimes end up with drums that are all a bit too big to fit in with all my other tracks, so I carve whatever room I need for the rest of the tracks/vox. ( I usually resample my drums in their "too-big" forms...so I can use them later without having to pull up all the layers..and since its before I fit them to the song.. I get them all huge ready for the next time I want em)

That perfect sound is priceless so time should not be an issue. if it takes all night that what you have to do. There a book call "how to get signed" and that cat says he spends hours tweaking just his snare and he is a pro. Have you ever taken music theory? if not it will give you that ear where you hear levels of sound that you never could here before. Try it, itworks

i'd have said the same thing to any racist in the 60's talkign about those "damn colored folk."
