question about vinyl

another dumb beginners question... what are the main advantages to using samples from records verses CDs? (other than having the obvious warmer sound of vinyl) does being able to control the speed of records come in extremely handy?

being able to rewind, fast forward, and needle drop to where u want is great. thats the main reason i use wax. Just its functionality. With a cd player u have to use the buttons to move where u want, which is a muthafu**er. I like being able to touch the music and move it where i want.

Dont worry about it just sample whatever sounds good. Tape, CD, vinyl whatever because there is no main differences. Its more about what sounds you sample than the media the content is on.

i been using wave lab on my pc and dumping onto the 1k...

But most old stuff you cant find on cds anyway. Plus alot of catz love the old vintage sound.

i was responding to binger0's post...he said that he likes being able to get right up on a sample with a needle from a record player...i was saying you can do that with a mouse in wave lab.

is the fact that most things that were recorded to vinyl never made the upgrade to CD. think about it, they didn't just convert every record that came out before 1986 to cd.

Just like theres probably tapes that never made it to either vinyl or compact disc.

Word, tapes are the next thing, cause anybody could make one. F*ck a private pressing, theres got to be much breaks on old tapes.

You got it, and tapes are like $.01-$.10 at the thrift store. At a couple thrift stores I go to they do have homade tapes. I got a christmas tape once that sounded like it was made by a 20 person rock band on acid... Had mad samples.

the only reason why i sample vinyl is coz its cheap
