Recording to comp.

When I record my music to my comp. there's a hissing sound in the background of my songs. How can I avoid this? I tried messing w/ the volume on the input of my soundcard and that helped a bit but not much.

not 100% whats causing the problem so it's hard to give a specfic answer but here are a couple of things that may be worth trying
use different/better cables to connect the equipment up
fiddle around with recording after you record using soundforge or something similar, normalizing and eq can do wonders
record with a mixer inbetween the comp and other kit and fiddle with settings there

what soundcard? there will always be noise on cables, but if you dont got a mixer the culprit is either the samples have hiss, the cables or the soundcard input is noisy.

I sometimes have this prob too, check earthing of cables, make sure it has continuity, quality of cables too, look for magnetically screened oxygen free lines.
Could be your soundcard's signal to noise ratio. Try a low noise fan if you cant afford a new soundcard.
Could be uneven master volumes if you are running through a mixer then your software.
