Yes, the 303 or 404 is good to start with... sampling editing can be a pain...but you get the hang of it after awhile. Why not an MPC? If that's too much...why not the Roland SP-606 used? I used Reason for my last 30 or so songs...it is useful...but you have to use your own sounds or it just sounds canned. My friend told me the other day that I stopped using Reason after I made it transparent...meaning you couldn't tell my stuff was made in Reason. I'm moving towared hardware again. Picking up an MPC next month. I want hardware effects soon as well.
