what up fellas and ladies
this is a question for those of you who sample.

how do you keep track on the samples you use in your songs/beats.?
i dont mean name the sample , i mean for instance you sample a sound off of (this is not a real artist)jonny johnson you use it in your beat and your done with your song, how do you keep track of that sound.

do you/can you; use it again ?, how many times do you use a particular sound you sample?.

let say you make a beat and someone buys it do you have a note pad with info about your song and sounds used , i have hella lil beats with samples i've sampled and i start at times to keep track but i get lazy, what do you use or technique to keep tabs on samples,.

not sure if i should have posted this in this forum or vinyl forum but any help or techniques would be helpfull,

another question too..how many samples do you people use on each track?..most 'commericially' released tracks only seem to use one main sample and work with that...lately i've been using 3 or 4 per track.

I write everything down. A lot of times I just remember what samples I used but for the most part I keep a log.

There has to be a lot of samplers here. The fact that we're at the MPC forum makes us ALL samplers. MPC's don't come with stock sounds, so anyone who says that they use one but don't sample is either a liar or plain stupid.

i have one shots but i've been backing away from tose in the last year and a half cause i dig the vinyl drum better,

Im guessing you all are saving to an internal HD....

I quit using the hd so every song I make I burn to a cd with the details of the sample of the ,master cd so when I reffer back to the cd I can dig the record out anytime..
Just a mental note/

I name the sample after what its from. For example:

Deep Purple, album 2 (if I have more than one Deep Purple album,) track three would be:

DPurp2/3.WAV

Trick is keeping it 8 characters or less.

yeah I have it coded in the name like mic pro.

i basically just make folders that i do all my editing in. Like i sample with my a5000, and just name the folder like Groovewash and then in there i save that file. then open it in wavelab and loop it up and call it like flutes in a new folder called wlab. then in there i open it in live and timestretch and effects then save that in a folder called, ren98 (for the bpms) then i open them in recycle and chop it up and save it in a folder called kits. Then i open in reason and use the mpc to control that. When i save the beat i just save it as the name of the song i sampled. Like groovewashjr.

I Do A Combo of these things IF I USE ALOT of Diff Samples (RARE)........

I Write it DOWN but this is rare...............

I use this same technique all the time and love the incorporation of Live Reason and Recyle.

But I take the slices and load them into the MPC, and then record them in Live.

Do you think there is a difference in sound, or I guess what is your take on the sound difference?


Do you still use sounds loaded in the MP, or just use it as a sequencer.

honestly im just lazy and dont have the time to throw the shit in the mpc. In reason u can just control everything with the mpc via the midi bus shit under pref in reason. Then u can assign midi channels to the hware and u basically just use the mpc to control a ur pc which is funticon as a bid diesel ass sampler and synth with mad effects. So i dont have to use my hardware samplers or synths, which i honestly use the same exact way as how i use reason in conjunction with the mpc. So its like im not even using software. this is cause i like to make beats fast and dont have time for all the drama with making programs and tweaking em and etc...

but I think the routing or something, it just has that sound coming out the mp.

I gues I use a combo of both, the options get really endless......

i dont do shit.

I remember what sounds are in each track. if i wanna use the same sound i just go to the tracks folder. Btw. ive got folders for each beat. i save all the sounds in its folder.

I dont even rename my samples. They are all sample 1, 2, etc.

I have a "sampled bin" all my sampled record that i actually make a beat out of, goes into my special crates.

If i gotta refer back to something or some how need to resample the sample i just find the record again.

is there another program you can do that with, i have FL but dont use it much i also have CEP but thats just an editor sequencer. one more question how do you sample then , do you use records how do you have your TT hook'd up? i like that idea of making sht fast, but i like my outboard stuff it makes me feel more that i acomplished some thing my self.

what do you do when that crate gets full ? i like to keep my records tidy some tiimes .......i do the same as you with my beats they all have folders and everything goes in it sound,prgm.midi,song file,.
each beat has it own file but i name mine , just wondering how you guys keep tabs for when you go to master it, or you sell the beat to some one,

so i guess useing the sample numerous time is your own choice.
i use a sample afew times if i like the sound, i just flip the song different and use other samples.
