mute scenes and recording them

How Do I create track mute setups/scenes/groups like the rm1x/rs7000.I want to switch sequences on the fly ,and mute out/audition multiple track mute setups in realtime,and later setup the sequences in song mode and record my mute performances.How do I do this?

Read the manual or take some time to read through the forum. The guys here have posted this kind of info over and over again. You should really look through the "Newbie Bible" as well... there are tons of things there that you'll never find in the manual. If that doesn't help, then try reading this forum backwards. Start at the last page and read forward...

I think what you want is mute groups as in the rs7000 which mutes different groups of tracks with one push. This is part of the feature request but the mpc is a different make and machine so obviously things are done differently.

What I do to replicate this is get an initial groove, then once I'm happy with that I copy it many times to make loads of the same sequence. then just set up you mutes in each sequence... ie seq 1 = just kick and bass...
seq 2 = drum bass and snare and so on. then just use the next seq function or go to song mode and assemble the different elements of the seq.

Otherwise you can record mutes when in the mute page and to hear those when you are in the main screen, record them, and then go to main page.
put your cursor on the mute tab (left hand side under the bpm's). hit the orange window button and flip mutes to on...

That should get you going.

Yeah, mute groups ala the rs7000 would be really great on the MPC...

As would the ability to record pattern selections "in real time" and have them recorded as an arrangment...

I miss those functions alot.

My apologies to Sonix for failing to read your question thouroughly. As you can see, i know nothing about the rs7000 and i shouldn't have answered to this post... I'm such a newb.

You can always set up the tracks that you want to mute together on pads that are in close proximity to eachother while in the track mute window. Just scroll through the tracks just like you would the sounds for the pads. Then just go between track mute and next sequence and record live. Its what I do, and it gets your head broken up so you can better think out your compositions, aswell as preping you for live pa. Personaly I see the limitation as a means to grow as a producer, especialy if you think about using the 4000 as an instrumentalist. Dont just play the 4000, let it play you too. Sacrafice is the first step in any form of progression. Hope this helped in some way. Oh and dont forget that you can record the midi information into a seperate sequencer and then just throw it back into a new track in the 4000.

This is the way that I've been doing it. It's very useful, though it would be nice to see Mute Groups as an option on the MPC, but I sent that request to Akai over a 1 1/2 year ago and so far we haven't seen it show up, so I wouldn't hold my breath.

Just start out with one sequence with all the tracks running, and then mute all the tracks you want, copy sequence to,,,, and there you have a track with the right mute settings. Its as easy as 1 2 3, just change your mentaltiy towards the gear, thats all
