If I'm not wrong the best way to do this is to burn the tracks to a CD then use a sample from the CD. You could convert from MP3 to wav and send them straight to MPC thru the USB but i think converting from MP3 to Wav loses sound quality, not sure tho.

youve got that backwards there
you lose quality as you go from wav (or aif, sd2, etc) to mp3.

for the best sound quality, use sforge or whatever to convert from mp3 to wav (must be 16bit 44.1kHz)
then use the usb cable to send the wave file to mpc. simple.
that way u will lose no sound quality.

except for what was lost when it was turned into an mp3

ohhh buddy - i know your pain. i just moved into a college dorm too.
however, i imported my whole studio. i had to build leg extensions to make it happen but it did and it is WORTH IT.
however, since you go to a college, make use of your school's library. rip all their good cds!! huuuuge sample bank.
i sample mp3s about as much as i sample vinyl, if not more. it's perfectly respectable.

i have a cord that you can sample straight from your comp. It goes from the record in of your mpc (1/4 in.) and the other end of the cord plugs into my soundcard instead of have my somputor speakers plugged in. so you just press the record pad and any sound from the computor goes right to you mpc. the cord is the two 1/4 in jacks to connnect to the mpc on one side and on the other is like a thing that would fit into you ipod or portbale cd players. im not sureof what the exact name is.

There are 3 ways you can go about this:
1
Convert the MP3s to WAV and send them to the MPC via USB or compactflash. This way you'll lose no sound quality at all.
2
Record the MP3s straight into the MPC via S/Pdif. This way you won't lose any sound quality either (although some audiophiles will tell you about digital jitter etc, but as long as you use digital cables (coax, 70ohm), you'll be fine)
3
Record the MP3s straight into the MPC via analog cables. This way you'll lose some sound quality due to the extra D/A and A/D conversion, but I doubt you'll notice because you're sampling from a lossy format anyway.
