I think Greg means what characteristics are you looking for, not what are you actually going to use it on.. Things like: how many channels, hard/soft knee, how much control, what sort of sound are you looking for - some compressors are very transparent, some add LOTS of flavour (sound is probably most peoples main driver).

i use a 160x for drums and sometimes some bass. mad ill tool to have around. never messed with a 266 but i stand by all my dbx shit.
