Drum Pattern Help

'sup fellas, it seems that no matter wat i try my drum pattern always comes out similar. Like i always got a kik-kik-snr-kik-kik-snr type pattern. I'm tryin to experiment and was wanderin wat tactics yall use when programming to avoid monotony .

For example where do u usually throw in hats? cymbals? rides and all that. I'm having a hard time incorporatiing anything but kiks and snares in my program,[they seem to be the only thing that sounds good] and i know thats an issue i need to address. Any suggestions? Thanx yall

I may not be the best help but i can give you what I know.
I always lay my hats first, at every 1/8 note then the snare at every 1/4 note. From there I lay my kiks, and depending on how funky I want it I just start banging them to the tempo. Now that I have a basic hip hop beat I throw in lower volume snares on 1/16 notes somewhere like the 12th 1/16 note of a measure. After that I just mess around and add open hh or cymbals and FX. A cool thing you can do to make your drums sound like they have alot more to them is add a lil bit of delay and/or reverb, this adds a nice sound kinda like you have more drum hits then you do.
