Drums...starting a track

Just wondering how people generally go about starting off their drums...Like do you just tend to load a load of kicks snares and hihats into your MPC and play with them till you find the ones you want to use? or do you choose each sound before you load them up?...do you use one bank of 16? or do you use a few banks and just choose which sounds to use later?

I tend you load up 4 hihats, 4 kicks, 4 snares and 4 other just various percussion sounds and just play with them...

Just wondering if there is any other methods I could try out for a change.

recently I've been using 4 banks with all different percussion. In one bank I have 8 kicks, 8 snares. One bank I have a bunch of different cymbals and the other 2 banks are various percussions, toms, bongos. . .

you got the idea,make your drum kit too,that helpful.i usually load a saved sequence too,which can save alot of time,but sometimes its also good to freestyle drum playing to.

I tend to use whatever drums are loaded at the time...As soon as I get to a point that I hear specific drums in my head, I'll load 'em in....

Well lately I have been just starting from scratch with every beat I make. It takes me almost 2 days to make a beat sometimes but it seems like I am more creative when I do it this way. When I say start from scratch I mean just turn on my mpc with no disks no nothing and go from there.

it usually adrum kick a snare maybe a bass drum os some hihat and i put that on like four -six pads then use the other banks for samples or sounds of some sort

Go through some records and start sampling drums. Kicks, snares, and hi hats. If you find something interesting, sample that too. I usually fill a bank up and then go from there. Snares and hats are usually easy to find, but clean kicks may take some time. Don't rush it, take your time, and let the drums you find create the patterns for you.

I go through breaks that I have on a DVD and try to find drums that match the beat.

I agree with the beat conductor. I used to just load up diffrent kicks and snares... and it works sometimes. however

lately, I find a drum loop that I like and chop it up and spread it out over the pads. then I layed other drum sounds under each pad to fatten it up... but not change it to much.

lastly I play the song and try the origanl loop pattern and then try others to see if they work.

i find the lead sample, like the melodic one and then i put that into ableton then i find the right drum break to use that is the same style and fits the groove of the lead. THen i chop it up and then program the drums to taste.

i match the drums to my samples and i match those drums to each other.

I start out with whatever kick,snare,hihat i load up. Get a pattern down with my samples, then listen to what i need to change, maybe the hihat is too high pitched, etc. maybe i need to tune the kick........or filter the top off, etc. Lots of times i just need to load up a new kick or snare.

I go through this until i find a drum that works and I like.

I find 3 or 4 breaks that suit eachother and make a progressive beat out of all of their spectrums in combonation.
