Bringin Keyboard sounds nd samples together

i wus jus wonderin how every1 one incorporates synth sounds with their sample based beats, sometimes i come up with a drum track from samples nd a sample nd then i try add to some synth sounds but they never fit nd it sounds to clean , or it jus **** up tha beat, iuno ne tips on how to dirty up synth sounds or how to program them to fit a sample?...

just use the right instruments. and synth sounds tend to sound 'synthy'. they're synthesized so i dont think they'll sound too dirty. if your talking about using a syntheiszer, thats what you'll get. synthesized sounds. if you use a module or something with some real sounding instruments, that might help.

someone was schooling me on this not to long ago...its finding the key of the sample to play too, so u can add more...thats when it starts to sound better.

The key is filtering & effects I do this all the time, you cant play a dry ass synth over a gritty sample and expect it to match or vice versa..

you have to filter the synths so it has the same tonal qualitity as the sample(or vice versa). That way it matches and blends as one. i aint gonna go into detail casue it took a while to develope the exact tecniques but i can say a telephone filter on a piano (as will as other things) works wonders to give it that gritty feel. ALso u gotta make sure what u play swings with the sample. U cant play a quantized piano over a heavly swinging sample and expect it to fit. That ish ends up Sounding corney as hell

Big ben- played the piano and strings over guitar sample
c-fire-played a piano over a chopped sample and filtered it to match
claud-- playe some synths,organs,piano over a chopped sample(EQ'ed em differntly)

Its all about how u lay it over the sample there is no one way casue every sample is differnt so you gotta approach it differntly. But IMO the key is filtering and effects

Ohh on more thing Like penfold said, make sure you tune your sample so you can play over it. THis is key man, without this you wont have shi*t. DO this before you do any chopping etc... makes life easier.

see thats the good thing about the micro korg being non timbre. i HAVE to sample sounds which works out in the long run so i can make em fit the beat with the filters on the mp. i also use the filters on the korg but those are too different filters and regardless it still sounds synthy. just freak em with tha mpc. resample, filter, whateva
