Does anyone ever listen to the records or whatever they are sampling BEFORE they load them unto the M.P.C.? Because to me, that's better than zoning or timestretch or whatever other crutches one needs to create music. All I need is 10 secs of sample time, a brew, and a dope drumline... Does anyone else feel me on this?
If not then invest in a trigger finger with....i dunno...reason, ableton live or whatever else. The fact that i have 126mb of memory, patience, and an a prolific vinal collection is more than i could possibly need to make dope beats. :)

i dont listen to records all the time. most of the time i go to listen to a record and as soon as i drop the needle ive find something and run with it from there. i dont need 10 sec. in my opinion thats dope if you can just drop the needle and make a fresh azz beat with what u stumbled on. when i first got ma mpc i use to use whole loops, drums and a base line. that sh!t got boring fast. so why not timestretch and zone. its all in the creative process.

hmmms,
so how is that a crutch?
I could say needing to steal sampled hits, embodiments etc from some one elses music is a crutch.

Don't criticize the methods of others, it's the end result that matters.
The path is just for your pleasure not that of the listener.

People just spend way too much time peeking over someones shoulder.

I kinda see what your saying, though you got to be easy on these guys, for most of them are new to the MPC and sampling phase, and dont have that trained ear to know what to listen out for in records and other stuff, granted I myself can hear a hot break or the potential from one the sec i play a record, as its playing I can hear all the little parts I want , but this is due to time and patience of sampling for years now.

and I have both XL and 1000 and I never used Zoning in my XL did not even know what it was till i came to this forum and I still never had the time to use it, I just like to manually cut my samps up....

anyway you was only trying to simplify it for the heads and not brag, though i can see some took it differently..oh well...

You can use Zoning to manually chop up your samples so that doesn't change anything.

That's like I can't see why a person would go diggin with a portable record player, but it doesn't make it wrong.

I've said it before and I'll say it again people are just too caught up in their methods.........everybody wants to believe they are on some ole next sh*t.
It just ain't like that.

You guys make it sound like there's a difference between how and when you listen to a record and sample it.
So you believe that it makes you accidentally come up with something?
H*ll that's how most producers I have ever met work until someone teaches them better.
Still I can't see a viable point to the difference in methods.

the best is if u can hear the pitch u need when ur digging. i'll play the beat for a min, then find the next sample. so it's gotta be the ryt pitch.

Yo, 1st off if you got a 2k then you work with what you got. God blessed you with the extra resources to get that  . No problem, right? My biggest peeve since i came on this forum, is that cats just complain and complain and complain and this, that, and the 3rd about the 1k (I need this and I need that... timing issues and what have you, my goodness!!!!) I am just proud that I can make my music with what I got and I don't need all the extras. (Even tho that new o.s. is pretty hot  as long as its free. ). If anyone got offended... then my bad. if i was face to face with ya. I would give you a hankerchief, a hug, and a brew... cuz some of ya'll need to chill out. Or... seek other options. All I have to say is: in the end your beat machine is only as good as the man behind it. Good luck and keep making hot stuff folks... I know I will...

I don't like to totally loop. I prefer to play my chords out then loop them. I love to chop samples and catch the nuances that are hidden. My arrangements are hardly ever straight samples. 10 seconds would do me fine also. When using a software sample like reason I open the “NNXT” and spread the note across the keyboard so I can play a strange chord or have fun with a melody. I use a lot of SF2’s also. I love both hardware and software.
